Luso Africa Cycling – Charity Ride 2011

Luso Cycling brought the 2011 cycling calendar to a close with a charity ride on the 11th December to Mother Theresa’s home in Berea. Food, clothing and toys were donated to this worthy organization.

This is one of the few charities chosen by the cyclists to receive donations from the club. The cyclists assembled at 08h00 at the club in the East Rand (from where they departed) and accompanied the truck with the donations to Mother Theresa’s Home.

Even though the cyclists only cycled to one destination a second truck was also simultaneously dispatched with donations to Bienvenu Shelter for refugee mothers and children.

The Luso Africa Scouts and Bikers were instrumental in assisting with the loading and off loading of the donations as well as traffic management for the charity ride group.

Father Christmas who sat at the back of the truck enjoyed the public’s attention and children ran to greet him from inside their gardens.  Sweets were handed out.

The visit by all present to the home was overwhelming and the atmosphere sincere. From newborns to toddlers to teenagers and more, Mother Theresa’s offers lots of love and care. In looking around the feeling of contentment overcomes the visitor because one can see that the residents are well looked after. The little ones definitely stole everyone’s heart.

Luso Africa Cyclists give a different meaning to cycling, not only do they cycle to keep fit but their combined pedal power also allows for a contribution to a worthy cause. Hence their slogan “cycling for charity”.
